The 6:16 to Minnamurra - Fine Art Print
Description:
6:16am out of Dapto, late ’90s into the early 2000s, the train packed with bodyboarders, easily 50 of us each in our own little groups, heading to Minnamurra with no real idea what the surf would be doing. No cams, no apps, just the weather page in the newspaper, maybe a call to Kent Ladkins surf report the day before you would never want to hear him say “the doldrums continue” or “millpond material”. We’d get our wetsuits on in the train, jump off, stash your bag somewhere and hope it didn’t get stolen, paddle the river and then through the bush, it always felt like we were slipping into our own secret spot. In winter we’d light fires on the beach to warm up after a surf, same mission, every weekend just chasing waves with mates.
